Keep Your Dana 44 TTB Stub Shaft Where It Belongs
Installing a locker or limited-slip differential in a Dana 44 TTB can create a problem that isn’t immediately obvious: the factory C-clip used to retain the passenger-side stub shaft can no longer be installed. Without the C-clip, there is nothing positively retaining the stub shaft inside the differential, allowing it to move or potentially pull out as the suspension cycles and articulates.
We’ve seen other solutions use a valve spring to maintain pressure against the stub shaft. While that may work in some situations, we wanted a positive mechanical solution designed for trucks that actually see off-road use.
Our Dana 44 TTB Stub Shaft C-Clip Eliminator uses a laser-cut and CNC-bent 1/8″ chromoly steel bracket with a machined Delrin bushing for the stub shaft to ride against.
A CNC-machined billet aluminum collet clamps around the stub shaft using a set screw. The collet creates a positive stop against the Delrin bushing and bracket, preventing the stub shaft from pulling out of the differential as the suspension cycles.
The bracket utilizes an existing factory mounting location for a straightforward installation and can be either bolted or welded into position, depending on your build.
It’s a simple solution to a problem created when upgrading the Dana 44 TTB differential with a locker or limited slip.
