Description

Mid-Travel Suspension for the 1st Gen Tacoma

The Solo Motorsports Mid-Travel Suspension Kit is designed for 1996–2004 Toyota Tacoma owners who want more front suspension performance without moving to a full long-travel system. It improves suspension travel and off-road performance while maintaining the factory track width.

The factory upper control arms can limit suspension travel as the truck is lifted. Therefore, our tubular upper control arms replace the factory upper ball joint with an FK 1″ uniball. The uniball provides more articulation and strength for off-road use.

Additionally, CNC-machined slug adapters press into the factory spindle. These adapters allow our 1″ uniball upper control arms to work with the factory spindle configuration.

More Travel Without the Extra Width

Depending on shock selection and vehicle setup, the Mid-Travel Suspension Kit adds approximately 1″ of front suspension travel and provides 1–3″ of front lift.

Because the suspension retains the factory track width, fiberglass fenders are not required. We recommend a 33″ tire for most setups.

The kit also gives you several shock options. Choose from King OEM Replacement Coilovers, Fox Factory Series Coilovers with DSC Adjusters, or Bilstein 6112 struts with new top hats.

For harder off-road use, we recommend adding our Upper Control Arm Double-Shear Kit. Overall, this kit gives your 1st Gen Tacoma a stronger and more capable front suspension without the width or fabrication required by long travel.

Recommended Upgrades

For harder off-road use, we highly recommend the Solo Motorsports Upper Control Arm Double-Shear Kit. It helps reinforce the factory upper control arm mounting location during aggressive driving.

The Solo Motorsports Stock Length Lower Control Arms are another useful upgrade. They move the lower ball joint forward 1″ and can provide additional tire clearance. This combination can accommodate up to 35″ tires with minor trimming.

  • Lower Uniball Conv. to Lower Control Arm (3/4" Stainless Steel Bolt): 120 ft-lbs Anti-Seize all Surfaces.
  • Upper Control Arm to Spindle (5/8" x 5" Grade 8 Bolt) (Short Misalign. spacer on top, Tall Misalign. Spacer on bottom): 100 ft-lbs Anit-Seize Threads and Shank of Bolt, as well as Anit-Seize Stainless Misalign Spacers.
  • Uniball Conv. to Spindle (2WD): 1/2" Bolts 50 ft-lbs, 3/8" Bolts 30 ft-lbs Anit-Seize Threads
  • Uniball Conv. to Spindle (4WD): 1/2" Bolts 50 ft-lbs use Red Loctite, 3/8" Bolts 30 ft-lbs Anit-Seize Threads
  • Clevis Bolt to Rack and Pinion: 50 ft-lbs with Red Loctite.

  • Upper Control Arm Cross Bolt (long bolt through the coil bucket): 85 ft-lbs use Blue Loctite on Threads and Anti-Seize the Shank of the bolt.
