Larger tires put significantly more leverage and stress on the factory steering linkage of a Ford Bronco or F-150. Whether you’re running through the desert, crawling through rocks, or simply building a stronger TTB front end, the factory-size steering components can become a weak point.
Our 1980–1996 Ford Bronco & F-150 HD Tie Rod Conversion Kit, commonly known as the Ambulance Steering Upgrade, replaces the factory steering linkage with larger-diameter heavy-duty components while retaining the factory steering geometry.
The result is a major increase in steering linkage strength without requiring suspension modifications or changing how the factory TTB steering system operates.
Complete Heavy-Duty Steering Conversion
This isn’t just a larger tie rod. The complete kit replaces the tie rod, drag link, center link, and steering adjusters to upgrade the entire linkage as a system.
Our kit also includes our 7075 Billet Steering Adjusters, which are machined 1″ longer to provide the proper amount of thread engagement with the larger HD steering components.
We designed these longer adjusters because factory-style adjusters don’t provide the amount of thread engagement we want when used with the HD steering conversion.
The billet adjusters are paired with 416 stainless steel jam nuts for excellent strength, corrosion resistance, and anti-galling properties.
Factory Geometry. Heavy-Duty Components.
One of the biggest advantages of this conversion is that it retains the factory Ford steering geometry.
No suspension modifications are required for installation on a stock-width TTB front end. You’re replacing the factory-size linkage with substantially heavier-duty components while keeping the steering configuration Ford originally designed around the TTB suspension.
If you’re running larger tires or building your Bronco or F-150 for harder off-road use, this kit upgrades one of the most important systems on the truck without unnecessarily changing the factory steering geometry.
