Description
Keep Your E4OD Shifting Properly After a Rear Axle Swap
Upgrading the factory 8.8 rear axle in a 1992–1996 Ford Bronco can create an unexpected problem. The factory Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is located at the rear axle, and removing that factory sensor arrangement can eliminate the vehicle-speed signal your ECU and E4OD transmission rely on.
Without the correct VSS signal, the E4OD will not shift properly.
We designed our BW1356 VSS Relocation Kit to solve this problem by moving the vehicle speed sensor from the rear axle to the back of the BW1356 transfer case.
Instead of requiring an aftermarket speed sensor or complicated electronic conversion, our system is designed to reuse the factory Ford VSS sensor.
The supplied tone ring uses magnets to generate the pulses read by the factory sensor. That signal is then sent to the ECU, allowing the vehicle to retain the speed information needed for proper transmission operation.
Built for Rear Axle Swaps
This kit is especially useful when replacing the factory Ford 8.8 with a stronger rear axle that does not retain the Bronco’s original VSS arrangement.
By relocating the VSS to the transfer case, the vehicle-speed signal is no longer dependent on the rear axle. This gives you more freedom when choosing an upgraded rear axle while retaining the factory E4OD transmission and BW1356 transfer case.
If you’re upgrading the rear axle in an E4OD-equipped Bronco, our VSS Relocation Kit solves one of the most important electronic problems created by the swap.
The Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) Relocation Kit is designed for Ford Broncos with E4OD transmissions paired with the BW1356 transfer case. This is needed when upgrading your stock 8.8 rear end to a stronger axle, since the stock location of the VSS is on top of the rear axle. This relocation kit utilizes your stock tone-ring sensor, which is relocated to the rear of your transfer case.
The supplied VSS tone ring has magnets to signal your stock sensor, which conveys the pulse to your vehicle’s ECU. Without the vehicle speed information being present at the ECU, the transmission won’t shift properly.
