Protect Your Bronco’s Gas Tank
The factory gas tank sits in a vulnerable location on the 1980–1996 Ford Bronco. When you’re dragging the truck over rocks, ledges, and rough terrain, one hard impact in the wrong spot can damage the tank and potentially leave you stranded.
That’s why we built the Solo Motorsports Ford Bronco Gas Tank Skid Plate as more than just a flat piece of metal under the tank. We designed a complete tubular cradle that surrounds and supports the bottom of the factory gas tank.
The main structure is built from 1.25″ × .120-wall DOM tubing with heavy-duty 3/16″ steel frame mounts. An integrated X-brace strengthens the bottom of the cradle, while a 3/16″ aluminum skid plate prevents rocks, branches, and other trail debris from passing through the tubular structure and contacting the tank.
We designed the tubing to follow the bottom of the factory gas tank as closely as possible. This keeps the skid plate tucked up against the vehicle and minimizes the amount of ground clearance lost compared to a deeper skid plate design.
The complete assembly mounts using existing factory frame holes, eliminating the need to drill into the frame. Grade 8 mounting hardware is included.
This skid plate is built for Broncos that actually get used off-road. Whether you’re sliding across rocks or need a solid lifting point underneath the rear of the truck, the tubular cradle provides serious protection for one of the most vulnerable components underneath your Bronco.
